Hijama - Cupping is done on the Prophet (PBUH)/ Areas of Cupping (Hijama)

 

Location for Hijama, as per cupping done on the Prophet (ﷺ) :

 

The Neck & Veins:

Hazrat Anas ibn Maalik (RA) reported that the Messenger (ﷺ)was treated with cupping (Hijama) three times on the two veins at the side of the neck and the base of the neck. [Sunan Abi Dawud (3860)].

 

  • عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم احْتَجَمَ ثَلاَثًا فِي الأَخْدَعَيْنِ وَالْكَاهِلِ ‏.

 

Hazrat Anas narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ)used to have Hijama done on the veins on the side of the neck and the upper back. [At Tirmidhi, 2051].

 

  • كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَحْتَجِمُ فِي الأَخْدَعَيْنِ وَالْكَاهِلِ

 

The Foot

Hazrat Anas ibn Maalik (RA) reported that the Messenger (ﷺ) was treated with cupping (Hijama) when he was in Ihram, on the top of his foot, for pain in that area. [Sunan Abi Dawud (1836)].


عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم احْتَجَمَ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ فِي رَأْسِهِ مِنْ دَاءٍ كَانَ بِهِ ‏

 

Hazrat Jaabir ibn Abdullah (RA) reported that the Messenger (ﷺ) fell from his horse onto the trunk of a palm tree and dislocated his foot. Waki’ said, “Meaning the Messenger (PBUH) was cupped on (his foot) for bruising.” [Sunan ibn Maajah (2807)].

 

عَنْ جَابِرٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ سَقَطَ مِنْ فَرَسِهِ عَلَى جِذْعٍ فَانْفَكَّتْ قَدَمُهُ ‏.‏ قَالَ وَكِيعٌ يَعْنِي أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ احْتَجَمَ عَلَيْهَا مِنْ وَثْءٍ ‏.

 

The Head

Hazrat Abdullah ibn Abbas (RA) reported that the Messenger (ﷺ) was cupped on his head. [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (5699)].

 

  • عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم احْتَجَمَ فِي رَأْسِهِ‏.

 

Hazrat Abdullah ibn 'Umar (RA) reported that the Messenger (ﷺ)used to cup his head and would call it (the place at the top of the head) "Umm Mugheeth." [Saheeh al-Jaami' (4928)].

 

  • كان يحتجِمُ في رأسِهِ ، ويُسَمِّيها أمَّ مُغيثٍ

 

Hazrat Ibn Abbaas (RA) said: The Prophet (ﷺ) was treated with Hijama on his head when he was in Ihram and for some kinds of pain. [Al-Bukhaari (2156)

 

Hazrat Ibn Buhaynah (RA) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) was treated with cupping on the road to Makkah when he was in ihram, the middle of his head. [Muslim (1203)]

 

The Hips:

Hazrat Jaabir ibn Abdullah (RA) reported that the Messenger(ﷺ) was treated with cupping
(hijama) on his hip for pain in that area. [Sunan abi Dawud (3863)].

 

  • عَنْ جَابِرٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم احْتَجَمَ عَلَى وَرِكِهِ مِنْ وَثْءٍ كَانَ بِهِ ‏.

 

The shoulder:

Hazrat Abu Kabshah Al-calamari (RA) narrates that the prophet (ﷺ)) used to get himself cupped (hijama) on his head and between the shoulders, saying: “whoever lets(out)” blood through hijama, need never fear if he does not get himself treated for any illness.

 

The teeth, face, and throat:

Hazrat Ibn al-Qayyim (رَحِمَهُ ٱللّٰهُ‎) said, "Cupping (hijama) under the chin is beneficial for pain in the teeth, face, and throat if it is performed in its proper time. It purifies the head and the jaws.

 

The Chest:

Cupping (hijama) at the bottom of the is beneficial for the treatment of sores, scabies, and mange on the thighs. It helps against gout, hemorrhoids, elephantiasis, and itchiness on the back." [Zaad al-Ma'aad, 4/58].
